CLIMATE PORTAL

TÜRKİYE’S CLIMATE CHANGE PLATFORM

As climate change policies and actions are being developed in Türkiye, the importance of stakeholders’ access to scientifically validated and reliable content is increasing. To reduce the uncertainty caused by the effects of climate change in the process of developing national and local climate change policies and actions, the EU and its member states have developed internet-based platforms to effectively gather, process, and utilize content related to climate change in their decision-making processes. National platforms that serve as a one-stop shop provide access to all content produced in the country by consolidating it into a single source for stakeholders.

In this context, under “Component 3,” Türkiye has launched the National Climate Change Platform, the Climate Portal, with the main objectives of (1) facilitating the collection, sharing, and use of information about the impacts of climate change, vulnerability analyses, and climate-related knowledge, and (2) establishing a consistent and up-to-date knowledge base. The Climate Portal will contribute to the development of Türkiye’s climate change policies and bridge the dialogue gap between decision-makers, government, and non-government stakeholders.

In this regard, work has commenced on the development of the Climate Portal and has reached its final stages. The Directorate of Climate Change, the Directorate General for Climate Change Adaptation and Local Policies, and the General Directorate of Geographic Information Systems have completed the software development stages with the assistance and consultancy of the Directorate General for Software Technologies. Input of content into the Climate Portal has started from public institutions and organizations, local administrations, municipalities, and universities.
