We are facing the effects of climate change increasingly every day. One of the predictions about the adaptation process will be more difficult and costly as adaptation efforts are delayed in the face of climate change. Therefore, national adaptation strategy and action plans play an important role in the fight against climate change.
Turkey’s National Climate Change Adaptation Strategy and Action Plan covers the years 2011-2023. One of our project outputs is updating the plan by the end of 2023.
The national adaptation strategy and action plan covering the years 2011-2023 focused on five main sectors. These were water resource management, agriculture and food security, ecosystem services, biodiversity and forestry, natural disaster risk management and public health. The number of sectors will be increased by including energy, transportation and communication, industry, urban, social development, tourism and cultural heritage in the updated plan. During the planning phase, sectoral vulnerability and risks related to climate were assessed, options for managing these risks are determined, prioritization studies are carried out and guidelines for their implementation are developed.
National Climate Change Adaptation Strategy and Action Plan Update Methodology Consultative Meeting was held on 24-25 November 2021 in Ankara. Stakeholders came together in this meeting and were briefed about the adaptation plans and processes of EU countries. In the following sessions, Turkey’s adaptation plans methodologies and expectations were discussed.
