Completion of Consultative Meetings for Muğla and Konya Local Climate Change Adaptation Strategy and Action Plan

Local Climate Change Adaptation Strategy and Action Plan Consultative Meetings were held in Muğla on June 6-7, 2023, and in Konya on June 12-13, 2023. Representatives from government institutions, municipalities, private sector, academia, and civil society organizations participated in the meetings to discuss the adaptation actions for their respective cities.

One of the project outcomes aimed at increasing societal resilience through strengthening climate change adaptation at the sectoral and municipal levels is the preparation of Local Climate Change Adaptation Strategy and Action Plans for the four pilot cities: Konya, Sakarya, Samsun, and Muğla.

The prepared action plans encompass eleven different sectors, including agriculture and food security, ecosystem services and biodiversity, water resource management, tourism, and cultural heritage, industry, urban, social development, public health, transportation and communication, energy, disaster risk reduction, and cross-cutting issues. Sessions dedicated to the sectors included in the action plans were conducted during the meetings over the course of two days.

The local adaptation strategies and action plans were developed based on sectoral vulnerability and risk analyses, taking into account local needs and priorities. The meetings facilitated discussions among responsible and relevant institutions regarding the implementation of local actions.

The final day of the meetings witnessed high-level participation, including Dr. Tuğba Dinçbaş, Deputy President of the Climate Change Presidency, at the Muğla Local Climate Change Adaptation Strategy and Action Plan Consultative Meetings.
