Adaptation Day at COP27

We took part in the Turkish Pavilion at COP27, held in Sharm el Sheik, Egypt, to share the harmonization actions in Turkey.

Our project, which strengthens Türkiye’s climate change adaptation action, aims to increase social resilience by strengthening adaptation to climate change, especially at the sector and city scale.

At the event, Project Manager Diren Ertekin shared the project’s better decision-making tools for climate change adaptation policies on a national scale, urban adaptation planning solutions (urban adaptation strategies and action plans), capacity building, and networking activities for climate change adaptation.

Ömer Öztürk, Adaptation Grant Program Manager, introduced the 6,800,000 Euro Adaptation Grant Programme, co-financed by the European Union and the Republic of Türkiye, to the audience in the pavilion, in order to implement the climate change adaptation action and strengthen Turkey’s adaptation efforts.

Ceren Ballı Gözen, Climate Change Impact and Modeling Specialist, shared the hazards, vulnerability and risk analyses awaiting Turkey. Within the scope of the project, efforts to update Turkey’s National Adaptation Strategy and Action Plan have started, considering risk analyzes. In addition, the Local Adaptation Strategy and Action Plan of the 4 pilot cities of the project, Konya, Sakarya, Samsun, and Muğla, is in the process. Action plans cover the urban, agriculture, livestock and fisheries, social development, energy, industry, transport and communication, tourism and cultural heritage, public health, disaster risk management, biodiversity and ecosystem services, and water resources management sectors.
