Pilot Municipalities shared the Local Actions at COP27

We came together with local governments, which are the most accurate source of information about the effects, needs, and methods of combating climate change, and at the Local Governments in Combating Climate Change side event on 14 November 2022 at COP27.

Located in the Mediterranean Basin, which is one of the regions that will be most affected by the negative effects of climate change, Türkiye continues to experience the effects of climate change more intensely with each passing day; a significant increase is observed in the number and severity of disasters, especially in increasing heat waves, drought, floods and floods, storms and forest fires.

Local governments are the most accurate source of information on the effects of climate change, the needs of the local and the methods of struggle. Local actions to combat climate change are specific solutions that cover local conditions. Local experiences play a facilitating role in identifying obstacles and potential improvements, saving time and money, and local-specific struggle and planning processes.

In the session, Gaziantep Metropolitan Municipality and TBB President Fatma Şahin, Prof. Ayşen Erdinçler, İstanbul Metropolitan Municipality, Head of Environmental Protection and Control Department, Dr.Serdar Koyuncu, Konya Metropolitan Municipality, Head of Climate Change and Zero Waste Department, Ali Tülümen, Samsun Metropolitan Municipality, Head of Climate Change and Zero Waste Department, Aylin Giray, Muğla Metropolitan Municipality, Head of Climate Change and Zero Waste Department shared the actions of municipalities in their fight against climate change.
